Soil Matters: A Hands-On Introduction to Agroecological Growing
A hands-on workshop with Gathered at Dusk & Bloom & Gray
Join Hattie & Sarah for a hands-on, beginner-level introduction to regenerative and agroecological growing. We've combined 33 years working in flower farming and the environmental sector to design a day that helps you understand how soil really works, leaving you feeling confident about growing healthy, resilient plants by working with nature, not against it.
What we'll cover
Through accessible theory, practical demonstrations, and time in the field, we'll explore what makes soil living: why diversity matters, and how plants, microbes, fungi, insects and humans all play a role in a healthy growing system. You'll learn how regenerative growing differs from organic, sustainable and no-dig approaches, and we'll bust a few common myths along the way.
We'll start with the fundamentals of soil biology: microbes, fungi, organic matter, soil structure, pests and plant health. Then we’ll move into techniques you can use straight away: cover cropping, mulching, composting, sowing and caring for seedlings, introducing biology into growing media, and building biodiversity through habitats and seasonal management.
Hands-on sessions include
Observing soil and soil life.
Time on the farm seeing techniques in action
Simple ways to monitor soil health over time
Creating your own natural amendments
What regenerative growing looks like across the seasons, so you know what to focus on when
Who it's for
Beginners, gardeners, flower growers, and anyone curious about regenerative practices. No prior knowledge needed.
You'll leave with
A clear understanding of regenerative soil principles
Practical skills you can apply immediately
A personalised plan with 3 key actions
Take-home resources, guides and seeds
Lunch, refreshments and all materials included
A supportive WhatsApp group for continued support
The day is relaxed and interactive, with plenty of time for questions, discussion and connection.
Where
The Village Hall, Laxton, and Gathered at Dusk, a short walk from the village hall.
When
17th October 2026. Arrival from 9:30am, starting 10am. Finishing at 4pm.
